Pet Hair Air Purifier

Pet hair can become a huge issue if you live with a warm-blooded animal such as a dog, cat, bunny, or ferret.

The very feature that makes them so cuddly and adorable can become a real problem unless you take steps to keep it under control.

Baths to remove excess hair, brushing, proper diet, and adhesive rollers are all great ways to minimize the amount you will deal with.

But ultimately, the most efficient and consistent way to cut down on hair in the air is to use a filter that can effectively remove it.

Big pieces are easily removed by pre-filters that are relatively inexpensive.  They are made of a cotton ball-like fabric and should be placed as the first filters inside a unit.

And if you’re trying to remove particles of any kind, the unit must have a high efficiency particle arresting filter that can trap particles as small as .3 microns.

This is important because in addition to hair, warm-blooded pets shed dander constantly.  As annoying and unsightly as the hair can be, it is pet dander that is the allergen that often triggers allergy and asthma symptoms.

This type of filter doesn’t discriminate against other allergens and will remove things like dust, dust mites, and mold and mildew spores.

You can have the best combination of filters in the world, but if the cleaner can’t run 24 hours a day every day you have very little chance of really making the air better.

PurerAir.com offers a cleaner that has 2 pre-filters a HEPA filter as well as carbon cloth to give additional protection against particles and odor.

Purifiers That Remove Dander

Dander is produced by all warm-blooded animals.  It is dead skin that is continually being pushed off and replaced by newer skin that is healthier and more able to defend the body against disease and infection.

The issue for anyone who is sensitive to it is the protein that it contains.  There seems to be no rhyme or reason to who is allergic or why.

But if you are one of the people whose immune as determined that dander is a threat to the body there are steps that you can take to minimize its effect.

Using a purifier is an excellent solution to the problem because the right unit can run 24/7 every day to continually reduce the amount of these light-weight particles in the air.

The fewer there are in the air, the less there are for you to inhale, or to settle on horizontal surfaces only to be sent airborne again with the slightest air current.
Pet dander weighs in at approximately 5 microns.

A micron is defined as one millionth of a meter.  So it is important that any cleaner that is to be effective be able to remove this size particle and even smaller.

The HEPA or high efficiency particles arresting filter is the best type of filter for removing dander and other more usual allergens that triggers symptoms.

This type of filter is able to remove particles as small as .3 microns with 99.97% efficiency.  This means that for every 10,000 particles it is able to remove 99,997 of them.

And because size (not the pollutant’s source) is the only thing that matters it can also remove pollen, household dust, and dust mites.

Controlling Bird Dust

Every bird generates some amount of dust.  It’s just part of the total package when the bird that you love lives with you.  However, some birds are dustier than others.

If you have one of these birds you already know this.  If you don’t have one of these birds and you’re thinking about adopting, you should know about them.

The powder-down parrots include the African Grey, Cockatoo, and Cockatiel.  They are all absolutely gorgeous birds that produce a ton of white powder from wing dust.  And this name is so accurate.

Controlling is the key word because it is never going to go away.  It is a natural and necessary part of their growth and development.  And regardless of what you might hear, you’re always going to have some dust.

One of the best ways to control bird dust is by limiting the number of birds that you adopt.  You are also more likely to remove the dust when you clean with water.  Vacuum rather than sweep; and a unit with a HEPA filter will help prevent the dust from entering the air again.

Lastly, a proactive yet non-invasive way to drastically reduce the amount of dust in the air is to filter the air with a series of filters that can remove the white powder you can see as well as the invisible dander that is renowned as one of the most potent allergens there is.

The Bird Dust Air Purifier from PurerAir.com offers 4-stage filtration 24 hours a day.  This non-stop cleaning can clear the air for you and your birds.

Many of the powder down birds can live 30 to 50 years with the right care.  And providing clean air is a huge step towards that end for your bird, and you too.

Pet Dander Allergies--5 Ways To Minimize Symptoms

Even though pet dander is invisible, your body doesn't have to see it to know it's there.  The protein that it contains is one of the most potent allergens known and can  cause continuous symptoms.

The aggravating symptoms are usually triggered by warm-blooded pets such as dogs, cats, birds, ferrets and other cuddly fur balls. So if you know you have allergies fish make nice pets without the dander. But if you've already fallen in love with something other than fish, here are 5 ways to minimize the symptoms your pet causes.

Keep Cleaning---Pets give a lot of love, and in return those of us who love them unconditionally know that there will be more clean up involved.

You will know how often you need to clean based on how much dust your friend creates. Remember to avoid dry cleaning (dusting, sweeping) and opt for cleaning with water.

Pet bedding can also attract dust mites.  These don't care who the owner of the dander is. Wash any area rugs weekly. Use window coverings that can we washed or wiped down to keep particulates from accumulating.

Limit piles because they create extra surface area where dust can and will settle. Keep knick-knacks to a minimum for the same reason. Reducing these 2 things alone will cut down greatly on what you have to clean each week.

Keep The Numbers Low---Don't let a big heart get you in over your head.. So the temptation is to save every pooch with big eyes. Ultimately that is not the best thing for either of you.

Too many animals often equals too much dander as well. This will eventually make it hard for you to breathe, often forcing the owner to place pets in a new home or a shelter. And that's hard on everyone. You can't explain your decision to your pet. This is a case where more is not better.

Consider Baths---Always check with the veterinarian before implementing a bath regimen. However, this can often drastically reduce the amount of hair, dander, dust, and/or feathers that is available for your pet to send into the air.

Use Allergy-Friendly Furnishings---What's this you are probably wondering? It's using furniture and accessories that allow particles to fall to the floor. Smooth surfaces rather than woven are best.

Opt for furniture that is not upholstered (fabric).  Woven material hold particles and are difficult to clean thoroughly.  Normal use will send particles into the air, and fabrics generally cannot be cleaned easily or cheaply.

Flooring choices include area rugs, linoleum, tile, slate and other non-porous surfaces. Avoid wall-to-wall carpet because it is hard to clean thoroughly, and in between cleanings it allows a tremendous number of particulates and odors to accumulate.

The slightest amount of movement on the carpet will cause the particles to go airborne and available for you to inhale. This can become a vicious cycle which can cause allergy symptoms to be continuous.

Filter The Air----Regardless of how careful you are, and how many steps you take to minimize the allergens generated by pets and other normal indoor activities, you will still have more than you want in your air.

The most reliable way to eliminate them consistently and effectively is to use multiple-sized filters to eliminate them from the air. Pre-filters are effective yet inexpensive ways to remove visible particulates.

The high efficiency particle arresting or HEPA filter is an excellent fit for microscopic particles like dander, mold and mildew spores, and dust mites. Designed to eliminate 99,997 out of every 10,000 particles that are .3 microns or larger, it is the best filter for the job.

This is the type of filtration that hospitals use because it's only by-product is fresh air. Avoid those units that produce any amount of ozone or ionized particles. Experts can't seem to agree about if and how much is safe for living things.

Preventing Cat Allergies

Allergies to cats or any other warm blooded animal can’t be prevented, but you can certainly lessen the symptoms you experience.

Cats like all other warm-blooded animals shed dead skin flakes known as dander.  These invisible flakes contain a protein that is one of the most potent allergens known in the form of fel-d1.

For whatever reason, if your body is sensitive to this irritant you will need to take certain precautions to lessen the frequency and intensity of flare-ups.

Limiting the number of cats you live with will help.  Keeping them properly groomed and fed so that their skin is healthy and does not shed more than normal will help a lot too.

Vacuuming often is a good way to pick up particles that often have the sticky dander stuck to them.  And depending on how allergic you are and how strong you are, you can make your bedroom off-limits.

If your cat goes all over the house and you have central air and heat, then the air will probably go to one return and circulate again throughout the house.  That means the air all over your house will contain dander.

The best way to deal with airborne dander is to filter the air with a purifier that contains multiple sets of particles filters.  The HEPA or high efficiency particle arresting filter is particularly effective at removing microscopic size particles such as dander even down to .3 microns in size.

Having this type of filtration be continuous means that the dander level is never allowed to increase to a level that would cause flare-ups.

24 hour filtration is an effective yet non-invasive solution to the problem.  It eliminates the problem rather than having you wait to treat the symptoms that result.

The Cat Dander Air Purifier has a canister of 4 filters including a HEPA that won’t prevent cat allergies, but will certainly go a long way towards minimizing the symptoms allergies can cause.
