Preventing Allergies To Cats
Unfortunately, there is no way to totally prevent allergies of any kind. But a universal truth about allergies that can help is to avoid the trigger. With cats the irritant is generally the dander. Many mistake cat hair as an allergen when this is not true at all.
The microscopic flakes of dead skin (dander) are the usual
culprit for pet owners who find their bodies going into overdrive when they are
near their cat and/or in a space that is regularly occupied by a feline
companion.
It’s sticky stuff so it attaches to everything including
clothes, hair, cat hair, and other more usual household pollutants such as
plain old dust. It can stick to walls
and furniture that your cat frequents. So bottom line, it can be a nightmare.
Continually filtering the dander and the particles it attaches
to is one of the most effective ways to effectively reduce the amount available
to be inhaled.
The best type of filter
to deal with these microscopic particles is a HEPA or high efficiency particle
arresting filter.
By definition this type of filter must be able to remove
99.97% of airborne particles that are .3 microns or larger. And the advantage is that the only by-product
is fresh air. No worries about ozone or
ionized particles causing problems for you or your pet.
