Asthma Facts To Know

Asthma, like many chronic respiratory conditions, has no known cure.  However, knowing as much about the things and conditions that can make it better or worse is one of the best ways to minimize the frequency and severity of flare-ups.  Here are 3 important facts to know.

1.      Asthma attacks can be triggered by airborne allergens.  Typical triggers include smoke and chemical fumes from personal and/or cleaning products.  Particulate triggers include animal dander, pollen, dust, and mold spores.

2.     Keeping the air clear in your home of potential triggers needs to be done 24 hours a day and is the most reliable way to insure that air quality remains healthy.  Keeping the air as clean as possible is an effective yet non-invasive way to help reduce the number and severity of flare-ups.

3.     HEPA (high efficiency particle arresting) filtration is the most reliable way to remove particulate allergens.  By definition this type of filter must be able to remove 99,997 out of every 10,000 particles that are .3 microns or bigger in size, with a micron being defined as one millionth of a meter.

So a purifier that uses HEPA filtration is not only effective at eliminating particles, but it also offers only clean air as a side effect thus avoiding more controversial by-products such as ionized particles and ozone.
