Cockatoo Dust Air Purifier

Cockatoos are incredibly beautiful birds. But they are powder down birds, as you have probably learned, and they shed an incredible amount of white wing dust. This is a natural part of their growth and development and will continue all the years you have your bird.

So how should you deal with the dust? Cleaning daily will help minimize the amount of dust in the room. Damp mopping and dusting, and vacuuming will clear away the huge number of particles and prevent them from going airborne.

It’s really important to keep these particles out of the air for you and your bird’s sake. Your feathered friend’s air passages need to stay clear. And because they are so tiny, being forced to breathe air that is clogged with dust, dander, and other more normal household pollutants will eventually cause a narrowing of the airways.

The air passages are then more subject to disease and infection. And often the conditions that result are hard if not impossible to reverse.

In the case of humans, continually breathing air that is thick with bird dander and dust can cause the onset of allergies and asthma. And for those who already have sensitivity to the protein the dust and dander, it can make it impossible to live with the bird.

In addition to cleaning surfaces, constantly filtering the air is a must. This should be done with a HEPA or high efficiency particle arresting filter 24 hours a day. This insures that you and your bird have fresh clean air, and increases the chances that your bird (and you too) will live a long healthy life together.
