Giving Pills to Dogs—4 Ways to Make it Fun

If dog owners from a hundred years ago could see the pills we are able to give our dogs today, they would be amazed. The ability to diagnose and give medicine has increased the quality of our dogs’ lives and their life spans. The trick is to get your dog to take his medicine.

So for those of us left holding the pills, here are 4 quick and easy tips for getting your pooch to take meds with a smile.

1. Mix it in with the food. Pills probably have an equal chance of being undiscovered in either dry or canned food.

2. Cover them up with a small bit of peanut butter, or mashed potatoes. This can work like a charm.

3. Those dogs who are move skilled at separating pills, serve as an hor d’oeuvre by placing the peanut butter on a cracker with the pills for garnish. The cracker will hopefully serve to distract them from wanting to spit out the pills. The success of this will depend on the number and size of the pills.

4. Some dogs don’t mind the pills, and will look forward to them if they know a treat will follow. You dog will let you know what works best. Think outside the box with pig ears, home made treats, or even dogie ice cream. Yum.

While pills help us keep our dogs healthy, another non-invasive yet proactive way of keeping both you and your dog healthy is by filtering your air to provide the freshest and healthiest air possible.

A high efficiency particle arresting air purifier will remove dog hair and dander, as well as other common household pollutants that cause air quality and our health to suffer.
