Spray Foam Insulation Fumes
Daniel called yesterday to replace his filters. He said they had been doing a wonderful job, and he could tell that they needed replacing because the smell was starting to bother both he and his wife again.
When I asked him about what was happening he shared his story with me.
About 6 years ago they decided to have polyethylene foam sprayed as insulation between the living space and the roof. Somehow it was applied incorrectly and their sensitivity to the smell caused them to have to move out of the house.
They took a few of their possessions not realizing that the smell had permeated those as well. They were finally forced to start with all new things to make sure that there were not continuing to be exposed to the fumes that off-gas from even small amounts of the insulation.
They have lived in 6 homes since that time, and were never able to return to the original home that they had insulated. They feel fortunate that they were able to rent it out to someone who did not even notice the smell. They eventually sold their home.
Some people have absolutely no reaction to the insulation, and are not even aware that others can be sensitive to it.
But, if you are having trouble with chemicals that are off-gassing from insulation (for whatever reason), we recommend the air purifier from PurerAir.com that is specifically designed to eliminate airborne chemicals.
Daniel is a scientist and has done extensive research because of the problems he and his wife have had. See the air purifier that he not only uses but recommends now at http://purerair.com/healthmate_plus.html
