The Austin Air Hepa Purifier works in 4 basic stages:

Stage 1: Large Particle Pre-Filter
removes dust, hair, and pet dander

Stage 2: Medium Particle Pre-Filter
removes molds, spores, and pollen

Stage 3: Activated Carbon Zeolite Blend
removes gasses, odors, and chemicals

Stage 4: True Medical Grade Hepa
removes bacteria and viruses

The regular units clean 1500 square feet, the junior models clean 700 square feet. These numbers are based on 8 foot ceilings.
