Managing Parrot Dander

All parrots produce dander so managing it is exactly the right approach to take.  You will never be able to get rid of all of it, but by filtering the air with a cleaner that is designed to remove a wide range of particles, you can drastically reduce the amount in your air.

The reason you need a cleaner that has various sizes of filters is because dander is sticky stuff.  It will often attach to feathers, and other more normal particulates in the air that are bigger.
These bigger particles are very visible and include household dust, feathers, and bird dust.  By having a variety of filters, the particles that are visible are eliminated without having to use a finer grade of filter that is best used to eliminate micron-sized particles.

So what filters should an air cleaner for parrots included?  It should contain 2 pre-filters for large and medium size particulates, a HEPA (high efficiency particle arresting) filter that is designed to eliminate particles as small as .3 microns in size; and a carbon cloth filter that gives dual protection against both gases and particulates.

Many parrots produce mostly dander.  But there are some parrots that produce a white powder that can keep air quality consistently clogged with particles.
Included in this group of birds are the African Grey, Cockatoos, and Cockatiels.  They produce this powder in addition to dander.

The Bird Dust Air Purifier from PurerAir.com has a 4-stage filtration process that is effective in taking out dander, bird dust, and other pollutants that may have dander stuck to them.

African Grey Dust

If you own an African Grey, you know how very special these birds are.  Whether you have a Congo or Timneh they are intelligent, many are well-spoken, and all are beautiful to watch!

What is not so much fun is the white powder that they produce.  It can cover everything in your bird room and even your home.
And as unsightly as it is, letting this powder accumulate can cause health problems for your bird and the humans who love it.
The respiratory systems of your avian friend can easily become clogged when they are forced to inhale air that is thick with dust.

Clogged airways make it easy for disease and infection to interfere with your birds’ health, and often it is impossible to reverse the condition.

Bird dust can also cause some health issues for humans as well including the exacerbation of allergies and asthma and the onset of respiratory problems that were not formerly a problem.

Cleaning with a damp moth and cloth solve the problem once the dust has fallen from the air.  But truly ddressing the problem means reducing the amount in the air so there is less to fall out of the air.

Filtering the air 24 hours a day is the most effective way to reduce the number or particulates in the air.  HEPA or high efficiency particle arresting filters are best at removing particles that are as small as .3 microns in size.

The air cleaner you choose for your bird room should have multiple filters that are designed to remove a wide range of particulate sizes.

The Bird Dust Air Purifier from PurerAir.com offers 4-stage filtration and includes a HEPA filter, 2 pre-filters and carbon cloth.  We continue to send it to be used by aviaries and bird lovers around the country.

Carbon Filter For Nails

Carbon is the best type of filter to have when you need to eliminate gaseous pollutants such as odors and airborne chemicals.

However, the types of fumes that evaporate into the air from many of the products used for manicures and pedicures in nail salons are tough for even carbon to remove.

So a carbon-based filter that has a potassium iodide additive to enhance its ability to absorb the volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) is essential if it is to make the air smell clean again.
To have the most control over filtration, the unit should be free standing and have a motor that will allow it to operate safely and effectively 24 hours a day.  If you work in or own a salon, you know that just because the procedure is completed does not mean that the fumes they cause go away.

These chemicals can remain in the air for hours, and can cause the shop to smell bad for hours and often linger until you open the door to start the day the following morning.
Removing these chemicals from the air is crucial to the short and long term health of the people who work in the shop on a daily basis.
And fresh air can’t help but attract more customers to your salon, particularly if they have tried other shops where the air smells really bad.

The Nail Salon Air Purifier from PurerAir.com has a 15-lb carbon-based filter enhanced with potassium iodide.

It also has a split capacitor motor that will allow it to send 250 cubic feet of fresh air into your salon every 60 seconds.

Put it to work in your salon today.  See it now at http://purerair.com/nails.html

Eliminating Ferret Odor

The popularity of ferrets as pets continues to increase.  They are amusing creatures and can easily adapt in captivity.  What is sometimes hard to manage is the odor that they give off.

It is a very distinctive scent that those who visit may not find attractive.  Sometimes urine smell can also be a part of the problem.

What is needed is an air purifier that can deal with both of these smells as well as hair and dander that they produce.

A HEPA or high efficiency particle arresting filter is a perfect fit for airborne particulates, and a carbon filter with an additive for the removal of the ammonia in urine is necessary to be effective against odors and particularly urine.

The Pet Machine Air Purifier from PurerAir.com is used in Ferrets For Soule Rescue, and will be effective in your home as well.

Keeping Dust From Birds

If you are worried about how dust affects your pet bird, you’re a good owner.

And you are right to want to keep the amount of dust they breathe to a minimum.

Their air passages are so small that they can easily become clogged.
A bird in captivity is depending on its owner to keep the air clean all the time to prevent particles from becoming lodged in their airways making conditions ripe for disease and infection.
Filtering the air with a high efficiency particle arresting (HEPA) air purifier is the most effective and reliable way to insure that particulates remain consistently low.

And whereas bird-related particles are probably at the top of your list, there are also other normal household pollutants that they are exposed to as well.  Things such as dust, dust mites, seasonal pollen, and dander from other pets can also cause problems.
The HEPA filter does not care where or how the irritants get in the air, it is designed to take out all particles that are .3 microns or greater in size with a micron being defined as one millionth of a meter.

Exposing your birds to less dust exposes their owners to less which makes everyone healthier.

Cat Urine Air Purifier

Having a cat that you love greet you when you come home is one of the best feelings there is!

Having urine odor come at you when you open the door is not. But if you’re reading this, you probably know that this odor is one of the hardest to get rid of.

Using an air cleaner to do the cleanup is one of the most effective ways to deal with this embarrassing problem. Unless you watch your cat every minute of the day, there is no way to know where inappropriate urination has occurred.

A cleaner that can run 24 hours a day means that you stand a greater chance of walking into a home that smells fresh and clean regardless of what has happened while you were away.

Carbon is well known for its ability to remove gaseous pollutants and enhanced with an additive that can increase its ability to remove the ammonia that off-gases from urine; you have a cleaner that is equal to the task.

PurerAir.com offers the Pet Machine Air Purifier to solve the urine problem your cat can sometimes create. See it now at http://purerair.com/austin_air_pet_machine.html

Managing Cat Allergies

Many people who are sensitive to cats are usually reacting to the protein in the dander. These microscopic flakes fall off, get scratched off, or shaken into the air continually as these bits of older skin are replaced by newer, healthier skin.

Dander will be a fact of life for as long as you have a cat. And because it is lightweight and sticky, it can stay around even if you don’t have a cat.

And while nothing will get rid of all of the dander, you can drastically reduce the amount in your air by filtering the air as continuously as this allergen is produced.

HEPA or high efficiency particle arresting filtration is an excellent solution to the problem. Designed to remove particles as small as .3 microns in size, it can easily eliminate airborne dander that is invisible to the human eye. But for allergy sufferers, this tiny allergen can cause huge problems that display as watering eyes, congestion, and sneezing.

An air purifier with this type of filter as well as a motor that can run 24 hours a day means that the amount of allergens are kept low all the time. Cleaner air means a higher quality of life and more time to enjoy your cat.

Got Summer Allergy Problems?

If you suffer from allergies in the summer, being miserable from the heat and allergy symptoms can pack a double whammy. Here are 3 tips for getting relief.

Choose Outdoor Times Carefully---Weed pollen can cause allergy symptoms to kick into overdrive. Dry windy days generally have more pollen in the air, so choose indoor activities. Make your plans based on what the forecasted weather conditions and the pollen count. The air is probably clearest after a heavy rain because the pollen has literally been washed out of the air.

Take Precautions With You---If your allergies are severe enough for you to have fast acting or preventive medications that have been prescribed by a physician, be sure to take them along with you when you are traveling even for short periods of time. These can benefit you physically if you need them, but they also give you great emotional comfort knowing that you can effectively handle a flare up should you need to.

If your allergies are not severe enough to have prescription drugs, seek the advice of your local pharmacist for over the counter drugs that can give you relief fairly quickly. Make sure you carry these as a permanent fixture with you in the car, pockets, or purse.

Eliminate Chronic Indoor Allergens---Indoor allergens are often a chronic source of irriation for those with allergies. Things like dust, dust mites, mold and mildew spores, pet dander, as well as seasonal pollens can keep allergy symptoms as a constant.

Clearing these allergens out of the air with continuous HEPA filtration is an essential part of any effective allergy management plan. Not only will this remove the constant barrage of indoor allergens, but will remove those that will continue to infiltrate your home from outdoor air throughout the year.
